When does a basic health insurance pay
Unlike accident insurance or dread disease insurance, the cause of the insured event is as irrelevant to this type of policy as the question of whether the insured person can continue to work. It only depends on the effects.
The basic health insurance, in contrast to the occupational disability insurance does not secure the labor, but only certain abilities. The capabilities included in the coverage are defined in the terms of the contract. Many insurers divide the skills into two groups. The so-called “ability catalog A” usually involves seeing, speaking and using the hands. If the insured loses one of these skills, he will receive the agreed pension.
Alternatively, the insurance pays when three skills from the catalog B disappear. These usually include listening, walking, climbing stairs, sitting, kneeling or bending over, standing, moving arms, lifting and carrying or driving a car. So if you can no longer walk or stand, but can still sit, you will not get any money with such policies.
Some insurers have also included mental abilities such as memory or concentration in their performance definition. However, the insured must belong to the worst 10 percent of the average population in this area or be under court-ordered care, so he gets money. On the other hand, severe depression can only be insured in a few tariffs.
People who are in need of care usually also receive a pension. From which care level the insurance pays, however, varies.
Meanwhile, there are also providers who do not divide the reasons for performance into different groups and in which already the loss of an ability is sufficient to get a pension – regardless of whether it is to be seen or climbing stairs. You should prefer such tariffs, because in practical terms you also have a realistic chance that the insurance pays when you need them.
Important to know: A pension gets with most providers only, who loses the basic ability for at least 12 months. Thus, the hurdle for a performance is significantly higher than, for example, in the occupational disability insurance. This pays, if the customer for more than six months is incapacitated.
